Mr. Norton, it’s because people would b*tch if they called it what it really is, a Christmas train.
I note with disappointment that it’s not coming to Illinois this year.
The “holiday” Express schedule has curiously omitted the holidays of Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving and completely passed over the 2014 holidays of Valentines, Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, etc… Why even call it a ‘holiday’ train? Hmmmmmm…
Really Jim…some comments never cease to amaze me
KCS does a nice job with this train, spreading it around their system in various years. I saw it up in Roodhouse, IL a few years ago and it was nice to see all the families there with little kids all excited about it. I later sent a donation to KCS to go toward the cost of running the train and supporting its volunteers and the stuff they do for kids. Spreading happiness is a good thing. (-:
Jim, some things are better left unsaid. Like David, I too am disappointed the CHRISTMAS train is not going east of Kansas City.
Jim from Alabama - That says it all!
Accept this gesture by the Kansas City Southern for what it is. Entertain those who would otherwise not have the sights and sounds of another time, giving children a sign that society may improve for them. Please show support for the fund raising program.
This train assist in donating a lot of toys, coats, and good will along the KCS lines. Stops are planned so that contributions to the various on line communities are spread out, and not every town is a stop every year. I, too am disappointed that we in NW Arkansas will not get a stop this year, but we’ve had the train most every year since I moved to Siloam Springs in 2007. Even Noel MO gets passed by this time. So it goes.
It’s a lot of fun, but undoubtedly a lot of work for both the railroad and the folks from the towns where the train stops. It’s quite popular, and every time I have gone to see the train, attendance is large, even on some days when it’s been pretty cold-low 20’s, which is cold for Arkansas, though I say that as an ex New Yorker who saw the CP train when the temperature was in the single digits, and 20’s would have been a delight.
The effort is well worth your support-some kids may not have much else at Christmas time. Send your check to the Greater Kansas City Community Fund. Mine went out a month ago.
