Let’s all keep the model RR forum specific to model railroading. The posts and polls on real trains are fine just post them in the trains magazine forum and keep the model RR forum for model trains. Thank you

I guess I don’t seen anything wrong with an occasional real railroad post on the General Discussion forum, though it would probably be inappropriate on the Layouts and Layout Building forum. After all, it is love of real railroads that brought many of us to the hobby in the first place.

Roadtrp, I jsut want to add abit ot what you have to say.
If you pointed out anyhting in this world, a culture, a ssociety that ONLY sticks to one topic, I’d say either you were making it up, or you were kidding.
The fact that there is no harm, is more like the FACT that it brings together community spirit, when occasioanlly, the subject matter is altered from the theme, This is a proven fact, and you will learn this in any Sociology class.
FACT: If were to srictly talk about ONER certain subject, this forum would be so mundaine, PBS would llook entertaining.
The other FACT is you will NEVER be able to keep the topic on one thing, never ever, I hate to burst anyones bubble, but that is the harsh reality as it falls.
EXCUSE ME !! …UMM…HELLO!!! don’t you guys model prototype RRs? don’t you NEED info on REAL trains to model them!!! I find prototype info very useful, for any aspect if model RRing. Maybe you should find another hobby like collecting yard gnomes if you don’t WANT to hear about the real ones!!!

FIne lets all post about real railroads then. Will that make you happy. what is the point in having the trains mag forum if we are just going to pot them here. I also do enjoy hearing and learning about prototype trains and operations, thats why I like model trains.
maybe you should find another hobby too. I am not saying that the posts about real trains are bad, I do enjoy them, just their has been many latly and we are geeting off topic. Lets keep it for model RR’s Thats why it’s called model railroader mgazine.[:D]

For one thing, ShaunCN, it IS “GENERAL DISCUSSION,” is it not? IMO I believe this forum is the most visited one out of all Kalmbach website forums, so whatever you post here might get looked at a little more. (by the way mainecentral229… collecting lawn gnomes?! [xx(] that was pretty insulting!)
I have to repond here, as I think a great injustice has been done to many of use here. First I have no problem with post or replies pertaining to real railroads. After all, thats what I am modeling. Second, this is a general discussion forum for model railroaders. Thirdly, I can’t fully understand someone that posts a lot of and replies to a lot of real railroad polls and subjects would complain about them. Lastly, we are quests here and as long as we follow the rules set forth for this forum we can have discussions on pretty much anything we like, including real railroads. Nuff said.
IMHO Real trains are just a 1:1 scale MR that the vast majority of us can’t afford. Lets not get too high faluting there guy.
Lots of room for all scales in this forum!
I don’t mind the occasional post about real RRs, as long as it’s mostly MR stuff.
What’s hard to deal with, sometimes, is absolutely HUGE sig pics.

Well it has been a week or so since somebody popped one off to get things going… guess it was about time…
Basically, the two go hand in hand and it can be hard to differentiate. After all, a piece about real trains can always lead to discussions about model ones. But in Shauns defense, I have found that you can sometimes forget that there are plenty of topics ovet at the Trains boards and spend a lot of time here. Im sure some middle ground can be found.
Now if you all will excuse me, I have some garden gnomes to attend to…
I’ve said it before on another thread–since locked so I won’t mention the DOS–did I say that out loud?. Back to topic–if all anyone did was talk about work @ work, or MR’s @ GENERAL DISCUSSION, life would be pretty boring. Kevin said it pretty well a few posts ago. I find it pretty interesting to see what prototypes modellers prefer.
A poster should be able to post their thoughts on this forum. We don’t have to comply with the suggestions , if we don’t care to. What I don’t like is how people seem to care so little for how they treat each other on this forum. READ OVER WHAT YOU SAY!! If it can be taken as insensitive, snide, curt, or hurtful, change it so it isn’t! I don’t feel you have the right to be these things!

I don’t see anything wrong with posting about real trains here. I myself don’t go over to the TRAINS side very often. I’m here about modeling a railroad. If I have to ask or have an inquiry about a railroad, then 9 times out of 10, I’m going to ask it here.
