Hello
I was thinking that i should find things to do while saving for switches so i am trying to think of little “projects”. Any ideas.I thought i might try chaning all my couplers to micro trains couplers and changing wheels sets but that will not take very long.Any ideas on something to keep busy?

detailing, Detailing, Detailing, I love to go out to the world and look for little things in the lawn that I can use on the layout. Little twigs are great for this (Ones that are not Green on the inside). I cut them up into little pieces and make Cord wood, or Logs or Fire wood for my outta the way scenes. making weeds and bushes is also a time taking task that rquires little to NO money. ~smiles~ Weathering is another project that can be if you have a brush and some black paint. Dry brushing, there are tons of stuff on that on the web. I dont know where your layout is at, But thats what i do when I MUST do something with nothing to do.
Make trees. Lots and lots of them. The latest MR has an article about making them, and there have been several posts (here or Layout Building) with other techniques.

Yeah, I’ve been in the same sorta situation. I sat out at the local railyard this morning for a hour or so. No trains came by, but the sun was out so photography was good. This afternoon, I didn’t feel too much like working on my bedroom layout because I anticipate a move soon to bigger quarters…
Mathematically it works out ----
No wife + no girlfriend = more space for a bigger layout
But not wanting to waste time, I figured I’d work up a quick diorama to snap some photos on. It was real fun and didn’t take long at all…

Concurrent activity was always stressed during my officer training many years ago. So, if you are on hold, so-to-speak, I would do as suggested above. Make trees, educate your eye with natural weathering patterns, create a ditch or two, put in a ‘foot path’ through a thicket, see if you can squeeze a culvert in some place, and so on.
Have you rusted your track yet? Do you intend to do that? Can you do anyting to the room in which your layout resides? Need lighting, a floor covering?

You are kidding, right (as in correct)? A model railroad is NEVER done (as in completed)!
Do you have a trainroom? No - build one - I did and did so AFTER my layout was constructed …
What kind of flooring do you have around your layout? Feet get tired? Try some really pliable rubber matting … especially nice for basement layouts.
How’s the overheading lighting for your pike? All kinds of options with this one …
Not into DCC? Convert (this is guaranteed to drive you bonkers …)
And finally … construct ANOTHER layout! I presently have HO as my “featured” layout … O gauge on a shelf system … G gauge for double track operation around the Christmas tree … S gauge in my future … get my point?
