Derailment happened 11/22/2023 PM, near Livingston,Ky [ RockCastle County,Ky] located on CSX in an remote area of Eastern Kentycky.
FTA: "…[in part] In a news release, railroad operator CSX said that the derailment occurred a little before 2:30 p.m. local time north of Livingston and involved at least 16 cars. Two cars containing sulfur were “breached” and some of the sulfur caught fire, CSX said, indicting that sulfur dioxide gas was being released into the air.
The company was conducting air quality testing in the area.
“We will work together with the local authorities to secure the area and safety is our top priority as we develop a recovery plan,” CSX said.
One crew member was treated at the scene for minor injuries…"
This is a once-busier line south from Cincinnati toward Knoxville that CSX sort of downgraded a few years ago with the loss of coal business. I had it at only four trains per day in 2021.

Sulphur fires can be nasty, besides the toxic fumes the stuff burns with a pale blue flame that is very hard to see in daylight.
It is quite flammable under the right conditions, we’ve had fires at loadouts just from little sparks from braking or a wheel flange rubbing on the rail.
