Here’s a t-v and print story (by me ;-D ) with some more details about how this all happened. The MBTA says the number 1 factor for why Keolis beat out incumbent Mass. Bay Commuter Railroad was a much smaller profit margin in its bid.
PJH: I have clippings of your Globe column from the 1980s …
The Keolis co. is underwritten by the French government so it naturally could accept a much smaller profit margin. How do you think Airbus is able to compete with Boeing??? The socialists will always underbid private industry and don’t forget it. They are able to do this on a continuing basis until other peoples money the socialist spend runs out.
So, the “socialist” approach is a smaller profit margin, which would undermine corporate greed, and presumably keep more money in operations than would the “capitalist” approach? As long as Keolis can effectively run the railroad, I’m all for it!
