MBTA should have “bought American”.

The entire MBTA system has been a disaster. The Light rail system still has type 3 and type 4 plows available from converted equipment but they left it to rot instead of maintaining it. They had a weighted for wheel cart with a plow mounted on it pushed by a regular car thet kept getting stuck. They ended up hand shoveling out much of the trackage. On the heavy rail system they resorted to uncoupling the power and backing up 10 to 15 feet and then doing a running start to ram the engines into the passenger cars to force them forward into the snow. It appears in each case no one thought of using a high rail vehicle with an arctic snow blower aray on the front. Meanwhile after Vermont rail finished using their Russel Plow to clear their tracks it was leased by P+W to clear their rails. At no time did the MBTS every try to lease a single Russel Plow or Jordon plow from any other railroad to clear their tracks. The end result is many of the engines and cars were damaged by the high snow on all the rails. Unfrortunately this is the end result of years of undrfunding for the T and a previous sweetheart contract in which few if any penaties were assesed.

Well, I’m impressed with the matching loco and cars photo. Shades of the streamlined era!
