Kids and trains

While out of town this weekend we went to visit a friend of the family. Well having never been there I found out she resides about 100 yards from the Union Pacific mainline coming out of Collge station. I asked if she had seen any big black engines roll through and she said yes every so often maybe once a year.
So now I have someone who will take photos when I tell her the 844 or 3985 rolls through town. While we were there a freight train rolled through and I ran my son outside so we could wave to the engineer and he blew the horn for my son
definitly a big plus in his world.

most crews like kids .they will blow the horn ring the bell and wave.and its nice to have others take pics and keep you informed of what they see. I’ve got alot of good shots that way.

I’ve related the story of the four-year-old fan of NW 611 on the forum before, so I won’t repeat it. Suffice to say that paying the admission for his family to VMT was worth the reports and pictures I got from it. (It was his birthday besides).

During my recent visit to Folkston it was obvious that the crews notice the fans - almost every crew gave a wave and an extra toot (the pavilion is between two crossings). I didn’t see their reactions to the kids that were there (photography favored the side of the tracks opposite the pavilion), but there were some there during my visit, and I’m sure they got some attention.
