If the future of Model Railroading is getting kids involved then today in Central Illinois a lot of good was done.
The K-10 model Trains open house was busier than I have ever seen it. The place was crawling with kids, young and old, boys and girls. Just watch this short video and you can see how many kids there were running trains. At one point there were 15 trains out on the layout at once, traffic was a little congested!!

Earlier in the day we had popped into the Belleville Il, train show and it was crawling with kids as well. My 10 year old shot this video, he was rather taken by the Lego trains!!

Yes, Simon, K-10 does a fantastic job at their monthly open houses, especially considering that the open houses aren’t advertised much in the local papers. I wish I could spend more time there. Couldn’t make today’s open house because I was committed to helping a friend.
When I brought my grandsons to an open house several years ago, they were amazed at the layout and thrilled to be able to run trains themselves. Didn’t make model railroaders out of them, but we’re still trying! LOL
I hope to be able to make it to some open houses in the future.
Darrel, would love to see you again. Maybe this coming open house.
Simon video did nor really reflect how many children where there. I would guess there was one child for ever 1.5 adults and the places was packed!
One boy was having a ball, but he had a problem! He was about 6 inches shorter then the bench! Mon was doing her best as the brakeman, but he still rear ended a train waiting to go.
Only time I have seen the store this crowed is around Christmas.
By the way Simon, where did Crispy buy the Video Camera? Could you get the specks?
Ken
He got it from Santa, who being a good source of these things found it at a discount on-line. In fact Tiger Direct has a deal on them right now

I was in charge of the camera at K-10 on Sunday and hardly took any footage as I spent most of the time shooting the breeze.
Thanks, Ken, I’ll make an extra special effort to make the next open house.
Would be nice to finally meet Simon, too! Only know him from the forum.
Darrell, I would imagine that the boys and I will be at K-10 for the Sept open house, so would be happy to meet you if you decide to come down. grizlump came to this past one and we had a very nice visit.
Thanks for the link Simon.
