wow…I actually finished 2 projects tonight…
here is my Southern Pacific GP40X. it started life as an OMI brass UP GP40X. the first thing I had to do was completely remove the cab, nose, and sub base. it’s not that hard on these older brass models. all i had to do is heat up the front of the model with a lighter while GENTLY prying with a screwdriver. it just pops right off when hot enough. the only problem with doing this is that it weakens the solder joints on other parts of the model so you have to be very careful you dont accidently break another joint.
after i got those parts off, i replaced them with Cannon parts. then I popped out the brass fans and replaced the DB fan with a cannon part and I replaced the radiator fans with Athearn genesis Q fans. I also removed the brass rear headlight, plow, and jacking pads and replaced them with the correct SP style parts.
once all of that junk was on I added the a/c, horn and bell to the cab roof. then I added the large antenna plane with conduit. then I added the 2 small antenna planes by the rear fans. after everything was added, i tossed on some paint and decals and weathering. and this is what i ended up with…
(the stuff i used for the windows isnt completely dry yet)
