Barry’s chassis in all my Bachmann 4-6-0’s.
Kitbashed an SPNG #9 using a custom Barry’s chassis, different cylinders and crossheads, modified cab and boiler, scratchbuilt tender.
#8 in-work.
Custom built a 2-8-2 using a one-off BBT chassis and two 4-6-0’s as a starting point.
All locos converted to oil.
Vulcan Duplex in work.

I painted it and added classification lights. The tender is scratchbuilt.
Redid the Annie to 1:20. New pilot, boiler, cab, and tender.

This was my most enjoyable kitbash.
A USA Trains 44 tonner into a 7/8n2 critter.
Not finished yet but it will be one day.
Did one in HO many years ago! Ran great, looked so bad that I promptly placed it in the gully under a bridge and make a train wreck out of it! I had spent over $100 trying to do it and now SWMBO will not allow another attempt.
Is it considered kitbashing if you just repaint and convert from track power to RC/battery? What about putting in ditch lights and LED headlights?

I think I only have a couple lokies that are still stock…everything else has gotten some work done to it from simply adding backhead details, fuel bunkers, major surgury to full blown scratchbuilds.
Full blown bashes? (in order of building)
Dunkirk Geared Engine built from a “General” loco kit, 2 A/C bricks, wood and styrene
The Borracho Speeder built from a Boxcar, HLW drive brick, wood and styrene
Class A Climax built from an HLW flat, 2 A/C bricks, an Porter boiler, wood and styrene
The Monster , a New Zealand A.G. Price Co 16-wheeled logger, more wood, more styrene, this one made a real mess!!!

4-2-0 that started as a CP Huntington 4-2-4 but had to get cut up to be R1 capable
And I still have a few more to build. I still have plans for a small Shay or an A. C. Price Class C freelanced geared engine, a 2-4-4 Forney to be built from my already bashed Bmann 2-4-2 now 2-4-0 plantation lokie, and a boxcab diesel/gas dismal using a B’mann boxcar I dont particularly like anymore. While I learned a great deal from the CPH project, I find I prefer modifying existing drives and not so much building up from scratch, but maybe thats just a question of building a few more and getting better at it.

I have never been able to make that first cut into a perfectly good locomotive.
though I have added or replaced detail parts with something better.

I have done several but not I G scale (done in HO) Most never finished…
It has been mostly just swapping cabs around and adding step pilots. The coolest thing I’ve done so far was the mating of an Aristo 0-4-0 and a B’mann coach to make a steam dummy (tram engine for our british friends).
I have parts collected to “American-ify” an LGB 2017, but don’t have the time right now…[:(]
How about adding: I would like to but my Parents would say “touch your trains and we Kill You”!
My mom cought me oiling my engine and started to get mad because i had the gear cover off!!! “You don’t have enough knowledge to take that engine appart!!!”
I even had the expanded view of the engine infront of me!

I would like to kitbash a small diesle type engine.
But I did “Scratch build” My Erector set 0-4-0 geared loco.
then I kitbashed it into some thing else
Most recent kitbash was converting a Bachmann 2-6-0 Indy to 1:20 and making it an 0-6-0. This was done by replacing the cab with one from an Annie which was made taller and also made shorter (front to back). Also made the tender shorter. Makes a good looking yard switcher. The engine was converted to R/C and batteries.

Okay, it’s more like I don’t own a locomotive that’s not been kitbashed in some regard or another. Many are significant overhauls, some just minor. I simply can’t bring myself to have a locomotive that looks like anyone else’s, so anything I bring home doesn’t turn a wheel on the railroad without a complete makeover. I install the batteries and R/C at the same time, so it’s gotta be torn apart for that, anyway.

I haven’t yet, but I’d like to kitbash a loco eventually.
I haven’t started yet, but I am collecting parts and planning to build a motorized modern-day MOW truck from a 1:24 F150 Ford pick-up.
Should be a good project for several rainy days…[;)]
Your locos are beautiful, Kevin! If it wasn’t for the white background, I’d have thought that Shay was the real thing. I also like the locos featured in your April column.
Answered no and then started thinking (sometimes it takes longer than others to get up steam in that department). Not sure that it qualifies, however, I have converted my locomotives to battery/radio control.
