Just wondered if anyone has used any atlas shell parts on a spectrum unit? Specifically cab parts. I have an older(pre-2000) spectrum 8-40CW(BNSF) and am custom building/painting it for NS new white-face/horsehead scheme. {LHS did not have any others, and it was marked down, so I got it cheap :>) } I have tried getting a new cab from Bachmann but to no avail. I know I could use an Athearn 9-44 cab, with some modification, but am unsure about the atlas cab. Anyone have any clue as to which will work better? Thanks for all help in advance. ricktrains4824
I’m only guessing, but the Atlas and the Spectrum engine shells are completly different as far as the cabs are concerned. I have both sets from Atlas & Spectrum, I know for a fact that the cab from the Atlas is removable. But I beleave the Spectrum is one piece, I could be wrong ! I’ve never taken the shell apart on a Spectrum, I’ve only removed the shell from the chasis on the Spectrum. Sorry I can’t help any further, I beleave darth santa fe can be of better assist.
Oh, great. Now I HAVE to post something.[}:)]
The cabs on the older Spectrum DASH 8s are removable. They are held on by two latches under the front, and two press-fit tabs in the back. I ended up breaking both latches and one tab when I took mine off to replace the windows with better home-made ones, but it can still be glued back on, or held in place by the large plastic nose grab irons.
I may take some modification to get Atlas cab parts on, but I’m sure it can be done.[:)]
its doable, i put an atlas sd 60 cab on my life like gp38-2, it only took a little trimming
Thanks for all the help guys! Greatly appreciated! ricktrains4824
