I don’t know if this is the right place to ask this, but in the Kitbash contest rules it says about -having 6-12 before and after pictures with an appropriate background. I am wondering exactly what an “appropriate background” is for the before pictures. Does it have to be some kind of realistic backdrop, or can it be just a white background like most of the pictures in other kitbashing articles?
I’m no authority, but I think what they mean is that either of those would be appropriate. While a picture of the engine on your coffee table, with your dirty clothes on the floor, and/or a reflection of you with you clothes off in a silver vase would be an “inappropriate” background.
NW fan is correct. For publication, instructional photos or those documenting a construction process need to be uncluttered by unrelated material in the background which might distract the viewer. The subject should be photographed on/against a neutral, patternless surface, appropriately lit so as to best present/render details of the object involved.

Check out my photography website in my signature, I show how I do it simply.
Ok, that’s what I figured. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing all that info on your very informative site. Very basic and easy for anyone to understand, but everything needed for a complete amateur like myself.
I’d like to see the Playboy centerfold used as a backdrop. Hmmmm… [8D]
But would it be “appropriate”???
Very nice! I definitely picked up on some good ideas. I’m going to bookmark that page… I’ll probably refer to it again. Thanks for a great, informative site!

In my opinion, NO. That junk only serves to tear apart marriages and peoples lives. I want to keep myself pure for my future wife… and I don’t want to see that junk. Purity is very important to me. I’ve heard and seen what porn (and even “soft porn”) does to relationships. I know some may disagree, and that’s fine. Feel free to PM me…
