So, now that I’m in full swing with ideas for the California and Pacific, I want to start kitbashing some passenger cars for not only some fictitious consists of the San Diegan, Super Chief, Sunset Limited, etc. (for those of you who don’t know, my railroad assists the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific) but for the flagship of the railroad, the Sponhaltz Limited, which was named after my great uncle that passed this March. Things like coaches, diners, lounges, and parlors are easy enough, but I want to have domes mixed in. I want to fit the 4-4-4 dome sleeper sides from Brass Car Sides on a Walthers Budd dome, but I’ll need some assistance/tips. Will this even work?
I’m with you on kitbashing passenger cars, the SP had 7 custom ¾ dome cars and no affordable HO scale so I kitbashed several. The link below is my blog post on my forth ¾ dome/lounge car.
The closest I have come to a project like this was to try to install some laser cut acrylic sides into a Norheastern passenger car kit. The results were bad.

Now I am using IHC kits as the SGRR COMET EXPRESS, with intentions to install super details.

I really do not like passenger trains, but I feel the need to run a couple. I find mail and milk trains more interesting.
