I am looking for information on appropriate turntable size for the Korber Roundhouse. There is no mention in the directions in this kit of turntable size. further, i have tried to contact Korber to no avail.
I am speculating that it is a 130’ table. I would appreciate any thoughts, ideas or suggestions folks might have on turntable size.

Here’s my “esthetic judgement” - the distance from the turntable to the roundhouse should be so that you can do one of those neat “photo ops” with several locomotives posed heading out of the roundhouse.
(I’ll leave it up to the reader to convert THAT into inches.)

I settled on Walthers just to get a matching roundhouse and motorized turntable. However, I DID find a site that has a pretty detailed write-up (with photos) of modifying an Atlas turntable with a 3-to-1 reduction gear to make an indexing turntable for the Korber roundhouse! This might be a bit complicated, requires quite a bit of modification. Go check it out, anyway.
My other thought would be the Walthers turntable, but I haven’t got mine to run smoothly, yet. So, of course, I went on to something else. I’ll get back to it someday, it’s holding me up!

Hi David, I don’t think that there is any specific turntable for use with that roundhouse. The size of the turntable is determined by the length of the longest locomotive to be turned. This makes a direct relationship to the distance of the turntable from the roundhouse so that you can get the angles of the tracks to line up correctly with the roundhouse stalls. Use what best fits your available space. Hope this helped…Vic
How’s this – a roundhouse has an “inside radius” and a turntable has an “outside radius”. The difference between the two is the length of the tracks leading to each stall of the roundhouse. Obviously, the roundhouse’s inside radius has to be larger than the turntable’s outside radius (duh).

Vic, both you and Bill’s comments make sense and are helpfu. I guess what i really am looking at is an esthetic judgement of what looks best for a distance from the roundhouse to the table (given that the table is at least big enough to handle the biggest locomotive i have). I can use a 100’ or bigger table with the bigger table having a shorter distance to the roundhouse (but I own a 100’ table, so this is all really an exercise at this point unless i want to sell current table on eBay and buy a bigger one).

is that with an 8 x 10 view camera or a 35mm digital - joke! Bill, you hit the nail on the head and it comes down to what i am comfortable with. I have not cut the hole in the layout and it is one of those cuts like the hole in a auto roof for a sun roof, once you have begun there is no turning back, so looking for assurance and moral support.
I appreciate all the ideas that this brought forth.
