I emailed them looking for a part from an HOn3 shay kit that was missing some gear parts.
They sent me not just one gear set but two, and even in the ole Blue Box.
I got an Athearn BB caboose for Christmas, and it was missing some of its detail parts, so I e-mailed them, and they immediately sent me all the parts I needed in an MDC box for free![:D] I’ll definately be doing more business with them.[:D]
Well I’ve been waiting 4 months now for a replacement drive wheel assembly for an Athear Genesis 4-6-2 light pacific. I guess you guys caught them on good days.
I’m not sure if Athearn even has the 4-6-2 drivers. The Genesis 4-6-2 was manufactured by Samhongsa, and I don’t think it’s been in production for 2 or 3 years. So Athearn may not have the parts for it.[:(]
I recently got an old MDC Roundhouse 34’ Reefer kit (still wrapped in cellophane) from a friend. When I went to build it, I noticed the kit was lacking 3 of the 4 roof hatches on the detail sprue. I thought it was a long shot, but I contacted Athearn and told them my situation regarding the long out-of-production kit, and they just sent me a whole detail sprue from one of the newer Roundhouse reefer kits.
I’ve never had a problem with Athearn’s Customer Service.
As long as it is something simple and cheap for them to deal with, I’ve never had any problems either. But let the problem be about DCC, a bit strange, slightly difficult, or something that would cost them more that a couple bucks and you can forget it.
I help a lot of guys with DCC problems…99.9% of the time its modeler error in installing or adjusting CVs and I end up fixing somebodies else’s mistakes and thats why I charge a fee and give very little free advice especially if I can’t see the model in person.
I find Athearn to be very responsive regarding replacement items. I acquired an SW1000, brand new, awhile back from an Ebay vendor. Upon receipt of the item, I found the shell had been incompletely formed and emailed Athearn. They responded immediately and stated the only shells they had in stock were D&RGW. No problem, I was goin’ t’ paint the puppy anyway. Shell received, no questions asked, and lokie painted and shipped off. Good folks I say.[C):-)]
Several months ago I purchased some BB’s from a hobby shop out of town. Although shrink wrapped of the four doors was missing. I wrote BB and I received a complete set of doors, but they were in a roundhouse box…
I have had many transactions with Athearn Customer Service. Even if it was not missing, and I lost it, I will still get the part in the mail. I bought a MDC 3 in 1 Rotary Plow off eBay, and the kit was missing the deflector on top of the blade. I called them, and also told them that the flanger blade was missing, even though it wasn’t. I recieved the parts in 3 days from CA to WI. They are nice people.
Walthers will also do this. If you lost a handrail, or something, they will replace it for free.
I bought a RTR Athearn BC Rail Caboose that was missing the windows and they sent me a set very quickly. So far for me anyways, Athearn and Walthers have offered great customer service for replacement parts.
