L-Girder Benchwork Question

Can anyone guide me on how to construct corners with L-Girder Benchwork? I have two 8’x2’ sections built and want to configure them as an L shape. Any suggestions on how to construct the corners?

I think I would just butt them together, and run a couple diagonal joists across to lock them together. You could even hook them together with pieces under the girders. As long as they don’t move relative to each other, you should be good.

Another method is to run the corner (connector girder) at 45 degrees. This will then allow you to run the joists on radians. These radian joists also aid if risers ar used for the track, keeping them closer to a perpendicular as the track runs a radius…

If it is an outside corner those joists can also be cut to pick up a radiused facia.

Yep, that would work too.

The good thing is that with L-girder you don’t have to be a cabinet maker. Get them locked together, and you are good.

I had great sucess using two 2" metal corner brackets from the local hardware store. They even came with screws! John

Place one set of L girders along one wall, butted into the corner.

Place the other set of L girders along the other wall.

Move the second set of L girders along the wall until they butt into the firs set of L girders. Take a bloc of wood and put it at the joint so it touches both sets of L girders.

Drive a screw through each L girder into the block of wood (or use nuts and bolts)
