Lackawanna RailFest in November

Hi, All:
The Steamtown National Historic Site will be hosting a mega-event on the first weekend in November. Several historic and preservation groups as well as the active railroads around Scranton will be taking part in this event. Friday, Nov. 2 will be the set-up day, with the visiting equipment from Amtrak, the Reading & Northern, Delaware Lackawanna, Morristown & Erie, Canadian Pacific and others such as the Anthracite Roads Historical Societies’ CNJ painted F3s, the Erie Lackawanna Dining car society’s sleeper and other pieces. There will be an opening banquet at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel later that night.

Saturday will feature a diesel/steam train to Delaware Water Gap, PA (60 miles east of Scranton), with photo runbys. The display equipment in the park is open to the public. A new photo exhibit of railroad towers and workers will debut in the Park’s visitor center, and three speakers will highlight different parts of the railroad. Special walking tours of the park are also offered. There is also a night photo session later that night.

Sunday will highlight the yard, with staged photo runs and a 1:00 train to Moscow, PA (13 East of Scranton). More speakers in the theater and tours of the yard. The Big Boy cab will be open, too.

Model train displays and railroad preservation societies will take up residence in the Trolley museum for the duration, and on top of all that, the Pennsylvania RR E8s will haul a four day excursion on some rare mileage track from Philadelphia to Scranton, Hornell, Olean, Harrisburg and back to Phila. If you are anywhere near PA that weekend, you will get quite a railroad treat. See you there. www.nps.gov/stea/
