Woman survives collision with train
JAMESTOWN, N.C. – A woman went head-to-head with a train and lived to tell about it.
State troopers said the driver was traveling south on Oakdale Road in Jamestown Friday morning when it happened.
She told investigators she had gotten halfway across the tracks when the cross arms started to come down and trapped her car inside.
Seconds later, an Amtrak passenger train slammed into the side of the Mercedes going nearly 80 miles an hour and knocking it into a guard rail.
No one was hurt.
Amazingly, the car only sustained minimal damage. Railway crews are testing the equipment to see if the cross arms were working properly at the time of the accident.
