This will affect the BNSF “Big time”. Allan.

I don’t wanna subscribe…summarize it for us please

me too

I saw the Omaha paper and it looks like the new Dam itself would be built right on the Bridge where the BNSF crosses over the Platte River. The City of Ashland would be totaly wiped off the Map. As for the BNSF. The BNSF Sioux City Branch would have to be relocated (somewhere). I think the People of Ashland and the BNSF will have to fight this one big time. Allan.

Those dam dams!

Railroads love these kinds of projects. They end up with a better alignment at public expense. Examples are the Espee around Shasta Dam and the UP along the Columbia between Bonneville and Hinkle.

Based on the headline I was thinking/hoping something about Lake Superior was going to legally obligate the BNSF to reinstall the long removed Northern Pacific trackage to Ashland Wisconsin. Darn.

And I was scratching my head trying to think which BNSF line served Ashland, Oregon!

I am so sorry everyone. It’s Ashland,Nebraska. I just watched KETV and the Mayor and the People are going to fight this like major big time. Those people are very angry. I have no idea what the BNSF is gona do. Allan.

In the order of highest to lowest probability:

  1. The earth is disintragated to make way for a new hyper-space freeway.

  2. Nebraska is cut loose, floated down the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers and set up as a huricane barrier for Texas.

  3. Ashland, Neb. is flooded by a new *** near Omaha.

From the Hitcher’s Guide to the Galaxy: DON’T PANIC

You got that right, the Omaha World Herald seems to be supporting Ashland and all of its citizens, so public opinion is certainly against the NRD (natural resources district[government agency in charge of making the dam]).

Although I’m sure the Texans wouldn’t mind a hurricane shield[;)]. I’m also laughing at the “bad work blocker”…[:o)]

What surprise? Perhaps you should live in this area before stating that this was some kind of surprise. Just because an announcement was made it does not in any way mean that this project will ever become reality. This is just a pie in the sky idea that will probably never come to fruition. So just relax and stick to worrying about how the MAN is trying to stick it to you and your paranoid friends.

Ya’ know what’s really funny? I used to work with a girl who was born in Wahoo Nebraska. Wahoo is just up the road from Ashland, NE. Oh, she was a cutey. Born in Wahoo during the big blizzard of '76… or that’s how she told it. She could eat ice cream like a snow blower through fresh powder.

Do you late night TV fans remember Wahoo? It used to be the “Home Office” of the Letterman Top 10 List for years and the fine folks from Wahoo are called Wahooligans. No kiddin’ - you can look it up. They got a phone booth marked as “The Top 10 list home office.” Or at least they did. Who knows, now days with them new fangled cellular phones with the GPS and picture taking machines inside.

Ahhhh, Nebraska… I think its time for another tasty beverage.

Drumming-

I don’t think it is so much the NIMBY’s, but the 2-3 billion bucks might have an impact.

Jay

Well at least the BNSF wouldn’t have to pay a dime.
