I recently bought the water kit from woodland scenic. I was impressed with the color they chose for the base and how easy it was to pour a lake. I tried this on my last layout with envirotex and was greatly disapointed. The bridge in the picture is an atlas code 80 but i actually removed the code 80 and layed code 55 flex in the bridge. It looks fantastic. Here is a photograph of the lake after it is fully dried. What do you think?
Any chance of getting you to take a pic or two looking down at the track on that bridge? I’m getting ready to install one and need some ideas for tie color and ballast. I don’t know if I should paint the ties on the bridge brown to match the rest of the track. They appear to be riveted metal plates on the model instead of wood ties. I’m kind of stumped on what to do with it.
Thankyou for the compliments. I do have a pic looking down the tracks, however, the glue was still drying in the middle of the ties so thats quite a flaw. The track is code 55 flex like i explained in the beginning of this post. I plan to add a bit more ballast to make it look as if its not all piled into the walls of the girder. I mixed fine buff and fine light gray half and half and brushed the mixture around the bridge walls until i was satisfied. I reccomend this same procedure. Let me know if i can help you in any other way.
The water looks a little cloudy… was the material fully cured when you took the picture? Also, the image is a little fuzzy… a tripod will help take the shake out.
I’d like to see a shot that takes in more of the scene. Is this a larger body of water than what we see in the picture?
And, finally… what scale are you working in? That looks like Atlas c55 N scale track… but I can’t be sure.
Lee, the water wasnt quite cured yet when this photo was taken. I can try to capture a better photo, however i am using my cellphone camera which is only 1.6 mega pixels. The lake isnt much bigger than whats shown, although it does go about 2 inches under the bridge which isnt visible in the photo. You are correct though, i am infact using code 55 in N scale.
Railroadnut, I used the woodland scenics water kit.
