Because the museum is in western South Dakota. Plus, Hill City has the 1880 steam train, which draws the train buffs. The majority of the railroading in SD was/is in eastern South Dakota, which means more rail buffs.

Our Museum represents all railroad which operated in South Dakota and the immediate regions surrounding the State.

Rode the 1880 train while I was younger back in the late 1960’s. Gaining this collection will enhance the visit for those who want to enjoy railroading’s past in the BlackHills at hill City along the former CB&Q line there.
