While someone here might have the answer, you’ll probably have better luck over on the Model Railroad forum.

Almost has to be the Greeley Freight Station:

It’s likely not the Greeley Museum, especially as their layout doesn’t have the Grand Canyon in it. The GFSM is prototypical of the Pacific Northwest (for the most part). It’s a great layout, by the way (it’s just up the road so I’ve been there a time or two).

Could he maybe be talking about Northlandz? I’ve never actually seen Northlandz myself, but know it to be one of the largest layouts around.

I think it’s Northlandz. I have a friend who works near Northlandz and said it is a big well known landmark in that area.

I agree that this is undoubtedly a reference to Northlandz, however, the expenditure figures seem unrealistically high to me, considering what’s there. The layout is rather crude by most modeling standards of today and really has more in common with the large tinplate, fantasy, commercial layouts of long, long ago than is does with outstanding modern HO pikes like the NEB&W, or the FSM.

It also sounds like the layout in Germany, but I could not find the link. The cost is about right. That is the layout with Mt Rushmore included.

You’re thinking of Miniatur Wunderland in Frankfurt: http://www.miniatur-wunderland.com/

It does have a “Grand Canyon”: http://www.miniatur-wunderland.com/exhibit/multimedia/foto/galerie/america/grand-canyon/

And a Mt. Rushmore: http://www.miniatur-wunderland.com/exhibit/multimedia/foto/galerie/america/rocky-mountains/

It might be Chicago’s Field Museum of Science and Industry. Tracks Head did a show on it when it reopened after the complete redo.

I only have seen the old one

Ok the secretes finally out it’s here in my basement in New Jersey . but Shhhhhhhhh don’t tell my wife that I spent more on the layout then I did for the house.

Andre,

mind if I correct you?

Miniatur Wunderland is not in Frankfurt, but in Hamburg. Frankfurt may be better known with the folks over the Big Pond for its airport, but it is only a third of the size of Hamburg, with 2 million inhabitants the second biggest city in Germany.

Miniatur Wunderland and Hamburg are worth a visit should any one of you plan a trip to Germany.

No, I don’t mind. I haven’t the slightest idea what caused me to say Frankfurt when it says Hamburg on the website right where I could see it. I seem to be coming down with something.

Maybe I said Frankfurt because my daughter-in-law flew into Frankfurt on a business trip day before yesterday.
