Large Track Purchase Planned - Where to purchase?

My needs list is just about completed and based on the track plan I have come up with an estimate of 432 feet of flex track (or 144 - 3’ sections) and possibly 106 feet of various sectional track, and 57 various turnouts. This should be enough to get both levels completed.

This is HO scale track.

Two questions:

Is this a large enough order to warrent a volume discount?

and if so,

Where can I order this much track at a discount?

Thanks,

Ryan

ebay u can fine companies that sell boxxes of flex track at discount prices but u can buy in bulk just boxes of 12 i think. but still cheaper then the hobby shops.

Well, you are talking about 1 1/2 boxes of flex to start with. I suspect this is all code 100? I have made ‘bulk’ purchases through Toy Train Heaven and MB Klein for Atlas trackage with no problems. Check out the web site and add up the cost of the track plus shipping… Maybe you can get a LHS to meet the price if you pay up front with cash.
I was at a train show a few months ago and got a box of Atlas code 83(100 sections) for $199 - Quite a good deal.

Actually I was looking for the code 83 NS and Atlas brand. Most of the turnouts are Atlas too, and some are Walthers brand.

So, how many 3’ flex track sections come per box?

If I combine the original flex track amount with the sectionals it comes to about 180 total pieces of 3’ flex track.

Ryan,
If you have a Hobby Lobby near you they had the best price on track when I bought mine. They do carry the Atlas Flex track in case lots.

Another place I have bought a lot of track in the past is Trainworld.com Phone # is 1-800=541=7010. I have bought a lot of stuff from them over the years and they are super to do business with,
Hope this helps.

I appreciate the input!

I have drafted a letter and sent out a few email requests for quotes to some of the places you have listed in addition to a few others. It should be interesting the responses I get.

For code 83 Atlas flex - about $2.25 - $2.50/section bought in boxes of 100 are about the best you can do via mail order(add shipping). Atlas code 83 turnouts are going for about $9/turnout right now. Walthers/Shinohara turnout prices are all over the place, and sometimes the supply is quite short(like last year when there were no #6’s to be found). My suggestion is to start stockpiling track now, even if you are not going to be using it right away.

csxconductor1 gets my vote - at least go to your LHS and give him an opportunity to fill a large order - some years ago I worked for an LHS and they got about an 18% discount off retail (MSRP) price. The distributor/wholesaler gives a larger discount on large orders. Your LHS owner might just give you a 10-12% discount if he knew that your order would come in and go out and he wouldn’t even have to crack the box. Ask him; the worst he can say is “no” and, if he does, you can say “bye”. It ain’t gonna make him happy but its sure going to be easy on your checkbook.

well, I can get you off to a good start, I have about 90 pieces of BRAND NEW Nickel Silver code 83 atlas flex track that I am selling. if you are interested email me:

swilliamsmmvi@gmial.com

I sent in a letter via email for a quote request to three online hobby shops, and one of our LHS here in Wake Forest replied with a package deal quote. So far the prices look good, his quote for the Nickel Silver code 83 flex track is at $2.90 + tax per piece, and that price includes the shipping. All of the price quotes for the various turnouts are about 25% below MSRP compared to Walthers catalog prices.

That much track…ON LINE! That’s where you will find your best deal…Forget E- bay…Prices are cheaper on line.

As stated above, i’ve got my best deal from TRAINWORLD on Ho scale track…they have a full page ad in MRR magazine…they sell it by the case…100 - 3’ sections of flex track…chuck

I sent Trainworld a quote request letter yesterday, and still awaiting word on their quote. Should be interesting what $$$ they are willing to offer.

so you are not interested in my track?

Ebay.

Send me your quote in an email please! Email address is in my profile or at the bottom of my post!

Cheers,

Ryan
