Largest Scale you've ever modeled in!

The Largest scale im modeling in is 1.5 inch (7.5 inch guage) scale.

All right yall, the question out there is: What is the largest scale you’ve ever modeled in ,and would you recomend it to a first timer?

Ever actually modelled in? That would be G gauge, but there’s like a bunch o’ different scales that run on that. My favorite is 1:20.3.

I have consulted with a friend who has a charitable organiztion. He’s been thinking about a railroad associated with a hospital and I’ve given him a few leads on what to do if he wants to pursue that. But no spikes driven yet or anything. My supposition is that something in the gauge of 15" to 24" would work for what he has in mind.

And Newman? A bit to the south, but I often drive by it headed to see my folks in southern Indiana.

BTW, if you’re interested in NMRA activities in the (old Southern Illinois) now Illinois Terminal Division, drop me a line.

The largest I’ve modelled in is 12 inch to the foot scale. [:D]

At least that’s what we like to tell the other guys at Steamtown.

I worked at a fabrication shop and we made replacement parts for Gunderson sometimes using the old part as paterns. 1:1 scale does that count?

After messing around with some 1/8, and 1/1 scale cars… G scale is a bit too small for me

12 inches to the foot. Built a speeder one time. A fun project!

The largest scale I’ve ever modeled is 1:20.3 narrow gauge, which I’m currently modeling. I’ve tried N, HO, S, and On30 in the past but once I started building a model in Large Scale (1:20.3), I got hooked!

Ditto on the 1:1. Fabricating a cut lever and tightening bearing blocks on a Heisler sure is fun, but it’s sure dirty too!

I work for a large Class 1, so the largest scale I use is 1:1. [:D]

However, I largest scale I have modeled in is the multi-scale collection known as G. Other then the expense, and large space required, it is a great scale for beginners. It’s very forgiving of mistakes, and the detail is robust.

Although, I do model in HO as my primary scale. The G stuff is packed away for when I have space again.

One-to-one… but the photog got the light all wrong and didn’t get my best side…

Model RR… doesn’t matter at all what others found it’s what suites you for space, skills, hopes/ambitions and lots of things that will count. I suggest you look back though old posts to see what was recomended… if you can find your way in to them.

The big Q is what you want to achieve… not what anyone else has done.

have fun

HO scale. Yes i would recommend it. Its small but yet big enough to see. (sorry n and z scale but your too small)

HAHA…I love steamtown…I’ve been there three times and am going to go again in the next couple of weeks.
