I recently read an article on track laying and it referred to the use of a laser level to set up grades,Has anyone used this method and who makes the level?

They used to be so expensive, that only construction professionals could afford to buy them. Like most technology, laser prices come down over time. They have been in the mainstream for a few years now, and have been incorperated into a number of tools.
True, laser levels are coming down in price (I’ve seen them as cheap as $20), but why bother when you can get a $5 chalk line and snap in a permanent grade line? A laser level just shows you where the line should be; you still have to draw it in, and I guarantee your handdrawn line won’t be as straight as the chalk line!
