I’m an SCL fan but I’m a little stumped on this one.
I was around in 1976 when my friend and I witnessed the Alco RS units being lined up for scrapping at the 50th Street Uceta Yard in Tampa. We had no idea that these Alcos becoming railroad history. At that time, they were just retired locomotives replaced by U-Boats and GP38-2s.
According to my SCL in Florida book, there were still 10 Alco S-2 units (#107-124) running in 1981.
It does make sense as I remember that SCL would operate a switcher unitl "The last bolt fell off! I remember well Baldwin switcher #66 ( a DS-44-1000) still puckering around in the late 1970s!
Sorry I couldn’t give you better details. A bit of good news: Here in Tampa there’s a group of hard core Seaboard Coast Line fans and modelers that hang out at Happy Hobbo Trains. Kevin,the owner is also an “Extreme” SCL fan.
You can call Happy Hobo Trains at (813)-886-5072 and ask for Kevin. Very friendly and down to earth. If he can’t answer your question, he’ll point you in the right way.
If you’re ever in Tampa, stop in. What sets this model train store apart from the rest is that it has sort of an atmosphere like “Cheers” where it’s o.k to come in and shoot the breeze with other modelers, most are between 30 and 70.

Thanks Antonio. That was around the time that I suspected. My era is 1978 and I think I may be too late for the Atlas Classic RS3.
For info to others: I found SAL site that list both of the Atlas SCL RS3s (ex-SAL) and they were retired 9/72 & 11/72.
