Below is the link to the video that I shot last night at 9:38pm of FEC train 101 pulled by a triple header of SD40-2s. Later, I’ll post video of tonight’s 101 pulled by two the four new SD70M-2s, no’s 100 &101, expected to roll through Downtown Hollywood between 10:00 and 10:15 if all goes as scheduled.
I like it, how many trains a day pass through there?
Nice shot! That was quite a long train…very interesting with the hi-rise building in the background.
During the week, about 6 to 8 including train 965, local switcher out of Ft. Lauderdale.
On the weekends, 4 or 5 trains a day pass by this way.
You know,
That’s as good, if not a better video than most of the pro-am ones you see on U Tube and such.
Good sound, none of the droning narration you always get.
You gave just enough info to ID the train, the place, the time and what we were going to see, then shut up and let the train sounds and back ground noise intrigue us.
Not to mention a pretty good angle and camera work…you zoomed in, framed the shot, and left it alone, so there was very little camera shake and none of the “zoom in, zoom out, zoom in, zoom out” stuff.
Really good job there, Ted.
I give it two thumbs up!
…I agree with Ed, that’s a pretty nice video. Like the fact it’s a night scene and shows the surroundings well, especially after the train passes. Train was moving right along and was really a long consist.
I kinda screwed up tonight. First I misquoted today’s date and then I almost tripped as I was trying to step down into the grass. That’s why the camera shook a little there. I hope all of you enjoy it because this will be my last railfanning for a while.
Great catch with the SD70M-2’s. That has to be one of the longest intermodal trains I’ve ever seen. Nice job!
So, does this video make you a “Hollywood” producer? [;)]
I also agree with Ed. Excellent job, keep us posted with more videos. The only bad thing is that Saturday was the 29th. Don’t worry I do that sometimes too.
Kevin
Why yes…I suppose it does.

Don’t look now but it seems that I have an audience, lol [8D]. But I think I see a critic or two in that bunch also.
But in reality, ever since last night which was only my second time shooting at this location, I’ve been thinking that maybe one night I’ll catch a grade crossing accident live at Hollywood Blvd and have my footage bought by CNN or someone else.
I know that’s shocking but if you’ve seen what goes on at those tracks late at night on the weekends, it will have you thinking the same thing, someone’s gonna get hit!
Hollywood Blvd is one block North of Harrison St., where I am positioned. The entertainment district , Downtown Holl
Nice video. I could tell where you almost tripped. Happens to all of us.
Were the tracks thru there just grinded? Sure sounds like it with the rails just a howling away.
Long train that it is. i counted 145 cars (I count the cars as this: on the articulated, each well or platform counts as 1, for example a 5-pack would be 5 cars; the 2 89’ flats that are together count as 2) Previous longest intermodal train i counted was around 125 and that was thru Neenah from Green Bay (CN said that train didnt make money, many times over 10,000’ going into Chicago, and 2 trains heading to GB)

Thanks Ted, I hope you will be able to add some of the other trains that traverse this line during daylight hours as well. Thanks again buddy!
Yes they were, less than three months ago. This line is subject to regular maintenance that always includes rail grinding and ballast tamping.
Great! Maybe you could do more in the daytime…(hint, hint)[:D][;)]
One thing great about the second nighttime video- catching lightning in the background as the train rolled through!
Thanks everyone, for your encouraging reviews and positive comments on my production. I feel very inspired by your interest and support and promise to bring you only the very best in railfanning material that I can deliver. These were the first of many more to come. Eventually, I plan to capture on video at least one of each of FEC’s regular trains as well as locals and extras that I become aware of.
I may even do a “pilot episode” of a railfanning show that I’ve been thinking of producing. It will be both informative and entertaining with a down to earth approach to railfanning with an emphasis on obeying the rules, staying safe and having fun. And most of all, lots of trains, not just the locomotives and the first few cars…the entire train as in my first three videos.
I will create a new post where everyone can share their ideas of what would make a great show. Those selected will receive their names on the list of credits at the end.
Thanks again
What channel would air such a show?
Your local PBS…
If I remember correctly, didn’t the Chicago PBS help fund and produce a “Trains” series?
Ran about 10 years ago, still see it from time to time…
