LASTA'S SP Mikado #475 at Pittsburg,Ks.Aug. 5th&6th, Public Trips

To those on the Forum:

This stop off on the return trip from Kansas City back to New Orleans is an effort to raise interest in Railfanning in the area of Southeast Kansas, Southwestern Missouri, Northwestern Artkansas and Northerastern Oklahoma. The passage of Up’s 844 seemed to generate a lot of interest, and the individuals who chased it back towards KC were certainly enthusiastic. 6 trips over SK&O on what is essentially now a freight only railroad is a good opportunity for fans to ride on public trips behind a historic engine.

I am sure the sponsor’s of this trip wouild like some feedback from the fans on this Forum as to your thoughts on this railfanning opportunity. So what do you Forum contributers think about it**?** Let them know, Thanks.

Sam, Could you please edit the post so it’s not streached out.

OK, Chad. I think I’ve gotten it formatted a little better, not so stretched out…

Thanks, for pointing that out…

$20.00 a pop?

Not bad at all…considering I cant get my family into a movie for under $50.00 to $60.00…

So, something they plan on doing regular, or just a once around thing?

Wish we could get something like that down here…

Ed

Hopefully, Ed:

There will be six trips out of Pittsburg on the week-end of the 5th and 6th of Aug. If there is a good showing, who knows? There is a lot of interest in the area. Heart of the Heartlands Club has its own passenger train, and Watco Companies has been a strong supporter of their trips.Maybe this will be the start of something.

I’ve got my tickets reserved for sunday the sixth! [tup][tup][8D].

As the person who came up with this idea and the main one putting it together, I thought I would let everyone know that this will probably be a once in a lifetime trip. We were fortunate that the locomotive was in the area and that the KCS worked with the LASTA group to get it here. I doubt that it will happen again anytime soon. It will be THE railfan event for the four state area of Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma for the year. The ticket sales go to LASTA so it would be nice if we can fill every ride. Hope to see you on the 5th or 6th.

John;

You deserve a really big hand for putting this trip package together and for being in a position to make it happen. It was fortunate for us in this area that you were in the position to see this opportunity and be able to put together all the sponsors… I picked up my tickets today, will see you there!

Congratulations and thanks![tup][tup]
