Latching Relays (again)

Some months ago, I posted a question about latching relays and got a lot of good information. I received today a couple of 12 V single coil latching relays from Alelectronics, which I bought to experiment with. (Their service was great. Ordered on Monday and got them on Thursday.) There was no wiring diagram with them and I have not been able to find anything on the internet. They are little fellers, about 1/4" wide and maybe 5/8" long. Two wires one one end with three more down each side spaced closer together. There is a dot in the top of the case above one of the wires on the very end. Can anyone help me with a wiring diagram?

Thanks, Steve

I’m assuming that you have the All Electronics Catalog Number RLY-87, a 12-VDC DPDT Latching Relay, PC Mount, shown on page 34 of their latest catalog. The two contacts at the end of the relay are the coil winding. You have to somehow reverse the DC polarity to these terminals to change the state of the relay. The six pins on the other end are the DPDT contacts. The center pins are the input and the end pins are the output. Check All’s web site, search for the relay number, and they may have a schematic in PDF format.

My experimenting with these relays did not produce very good results – first, the pin spacing is not a perf board standard of .01 inch; the pins are too short to solder to through a perf board hole; and the pins are very brittle and easily broken off.

Thanks cacole. Thats what I needed to know. Will proceed. Probably will come to the same conclusions as you. May have to go with De Mar, but was trying to save some money. Do you have any suggestions for another source for dual coil relays? I see in the Alls catalog that they have some dual coil relays, but probably would run into the same problems as the single coil.
