I live in the UK and usually my MRR arrives way early, long before it’s on the newsstands. In fact on most occasions I get my copy at least a good week before the first of the due month.
However, my september issue didn’t arrive by the start of the second week in August so I contacted Kalmbach (always a prompt response from nice people by the way) and they said to let them know if I didn’t get it by 29th August. At last my September issue of MRR did finally arrive but a handful of days before end of the due month.
No worries, just a glitch, I thought. But there’s no sign yet of my October issue of MRR and we’re already heading toward the end of the first week in September. Is this a trend or do I have to come to terms with MRR withdrawal symptoms? Is there a help group?
Has anyone else recently experienced late delivery of MRR? Is this a global trend from Kalmbach or just a UK thing? Do you get your MRR promptly in the US?
I am in the US but so my copy usually arrives around the 25th of each month. Not late because they usually haven’t hit the newsstands yet. When it doesn’t come on time it’s probably because someone at the PO wants to read it. I can tell because there may be fingerprints on it.
My October 2008 issue just arrived yesterday (9/3/2008) in Atlanta, GA, USA if that is of any help. Day 2 and I still haven’t even glanced at it (nor my latest copy of Trains which is sitting under it). Jamie
Mine arrived today 5-9-08 in Australia. The newsagent doesnot get this one for 5 weeks because of the stupid distribution system over here. I subed to get mine on time. Thanks to MRR for fast reliable mailing. Maybe you have a postie that is into Trains and likes to drool.
I’m in Scotland and mine was quite a bit later than usual as well. I usually get it a few days after I get my Trains but I got it almost two weeks after. Haven’t got October’s Trains or MR as yet this month!
I haven’t had problems recently, but years ago when I lived in southern New Jersey, my Model Railroader came about 3 to 5 days later than the other club member’s copies. At the time, MR used a tan paper envelope to mail the issues and they always arrived with one ned torn about 3/4 of the way across. Out of curiosity, one month, rather than tear the end the rest of the way open, I carefully folded the magazine in the envelope and pulled it out through the opening, then reinserted it withourt tearing the envelope opening any wider. In the club, it became a joke that our Postman was a closet Modeler and was reading the magazine before delivering it.
My Sept. issue arrived about 2 1/2 weeks later than usual. It had already hit my local Smoke Shop stand the week before. My Oct. issue arrived on Sept. 2nd., only about 5 days later than usual. I just put it down to more people being on vacation through July & August, (prime vacation time over here) and also Sept. 1st was the Labour Day Holiday in Canada & the U.S. It happened last year as well for me. My next issue will probably arrive as usual, sometime in the last week of the month. [:-^]
Well, it’s September 6th and I still haven’t got my October MRR. I’m finding myself glancing over at my old copies and continuously peering through the window to see if the postman is there. I’m trying to get on with my layout but now I’m developing a nervous twitch and I’m noticeably becoming irritable and short tempered. OK, OK, I’ll flip thru my Walther catalog.
Still no sign of my October issue in Vancouver. Delivery has been getting later and more erratic over the last 6 months or so. I assume the problem is in the mail.
I got my October issue in late August, I always get Trains and MR on the same day, except for once when MR went missing last winter, Kalmbach quickly sent a replacement.
