Late weekend Photo fun,but what the heck.

I just got a new Digital Camera yesterday so I just wanted to show “some” of my Models.

Allan.

Nice pics. I am still stacking and carving foam. I decided to put an N scale mine up the mountain a ways and experment with forced perspective. Anyone out there with pics of N or Z scale structures up a mountain???

Oooh, Me, Me, pick me next please!

Yeah, I’m excited. I finally got my PCC car painted and decorated. First, the original Bowser PCC as it came out of the box:

And now, the Pride of the Moose Bay Transit Authority, Number 42:

The number 42 was taken from Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy. I also painted a bus, which is number 36 in tribute to Jerome Bettis. (For those who don’t know him, he’s “The Bus” on the Pittsburg Steelers. And I root for the Pats, but you’ve gotta love this guy.)

I knew nothing when I started this project, so it took me a while. I finally cleaned, painted, cleaned and repainted until I had it right. Last week I made my own decals for the Moose Bay Transit Authority, and experimented on The Bus a bit until I had it right. And tonight I can look on this one as something that came out the way I wanted.

I’ll offer up a pix of my scratchbuilt version of FSM’s Jefferies Point Stave & Heading Company this weekend. Again scaled from Internet-available photos, the structure’s configuration varies slightly from the FSM original, since I didn’t care for the original design which had each addition as a separate “box” of progressively smaller depth. This model probably took more time to scratch than any of the other structures I’m including on the layout - several months - and is comprised of something like 500-600 individual pieces of scale lumber.

CNJ, nice job, I like it better than original, it doesn’t have the classic overcluttered look of a FSM kit.

CNJ, glad to see that you built the model not looking derelict, but as an operating business.

My project for the last couple of weeks has been new control panels.

First the old ones:

Then the new ones:

Nothing very exciting but it all needs to be done.

Yes, I usually try to have the appearance of my models in keeping with reality. Quite honestly, I’ve never seen any point to the overly-weathered, absurdly rundown, or caricaturish buildings some modelers seem to go all agog over.

CNJ831

CNJ831, Very very nice. Bruce

I’m curious : Why do you have two buttons for each turnout ? Do you throw your turn out by pushing the button that corresponds with the direction you want ? And those buttons that aren’t part of the diagram serve what purpose (such as those at the far left in the above photo) ?

Great work everyone,

CNJ I have admired your work for a while, and the results you achieve working from photos are outstanding, my hat is off to you, and I aspire to your results.

Have fun & be safe
Karl

BNSFRailfan, that new camera takes some crisp pictures - nice.
CNJ … scratchbuilt from photos … you definitely have the eye.

Been working a little on my first control panel for the staging yard. Built using XtrkCad, card stock covered with doc protector and mounted on 1/8" masonite and then put in 8 1/2" x 11" frame from wally world. Next is wiring. Toggles control track power only.

And, my latest addition … my first with sound. Those shipping inserts look like hugh snow plows [:)]

Thanks Tom. Very nice Photo’s everyone. Yall keep up the good work now. Make those models look good.

Tim, there are two buttons because I use Rix switch machines which require a momentary contact to activate each coil. Another option would have been a SPDT center off spring loaded switch to activate.

The unmarked buttons off to the sides activate switch machines in hidden tracks. Since I operate alone I didn’t feel the need to incorporate them in the track diagram.

I spent Sat afternoon railfanning so not much progress on the layout. I did however put new legs on it Sat night so now it’s 48" high.

Finally I have some Pics to post in here…

My SP SD45T-2 Throttling up to leave the yard with a long Manifest.

A not so Clean UP 8-40B Waiting in The Siding, With an out of place BN SD60M in the corner of shot.

A Relatively Clean BNSF GP38-2 Picking up Three Tank cars from Bobby’s Fuel and Oil Co.

A Shining AT&SF 8-40BW and BN SD60M Slowing to a Stop in the siding, at the point of a Freight.

I think that will do…

Great photos again this week, everyone! CNJ831, that is a great scratch build job! I am very impressed. I am anxious to get back to doing some scratchbuilding of industries on the SLO&W and you have inspired me! [8D]

I have been very busy with doing live sound this week (graduation week here), so not much has been down on the layout. I did get some work done on the trestle bridges. I wanted to fini***he Steel Girder bridges, but the LHS is out of some styrene parts that I need to complete them. Here the bridges are all being test fitted to the gorge they will cross.

A close up of the Trestle Bridges.

From afar…

Nice bridges and stream bed, Ray.

Thank you!

Ah, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for answering.

I have a similar situation with Atlas Deluxe undertable machines. I use a toggle switch to select route, then a momentary contact switch to activate the motor.

However you do it, we both end up with a skinned cat. [swg]
