My latest project has been to begin replaceing the headlight LEDs in my Kato SD90s and AC4400. The ones I am using to replace them are from Miniatronics, and are called “Yellowglow”. They have a much more “real headlight” look to them than the bluei***int that the Kato factory “white” LEDs had. I have also seperated the ditchlights from the headlight. In stock form, the ditchlights had a “light pipe” that ran up to the headlight LED, and they could not be controlled independently of the headlight (when running on a DCC layout). You can also set up the CVs to make the ditchlights “wig-wag” at grade crossings by pressing F2 if you are using DCC. I have set mine up that way, and it is very cool! Here are the pics. For comparison, UP 8242 has the new LEDs, while 8105 still has the factory Kato lights. (My camera still makes the lights look a little blue, but they do not look like that in person).
