Latest Rivarossi 4-6-6-4

Hey! Does anyone have that “improved” version of the Rivarossi Challenger? The new one with the Allegheny’s motor. Just how much of an improvement is it? Did they fix the electical pick up issues? Does it weigh more than the original? Is the tender used for pick up? How bright is the headlight? Any information about this newest model would be appeariciated.

Of all the modellers here on this board, no one has this locomotive? I need a little information! Come on people! [:p]

Call Walthers in Milwaukee. They are the official distributer of Rivarrosi

Names & numbers change over time but this Is the last I had.

when did they bring out these? I have RIVAROSSI UP #3985 and UP#3716, I received them end 2002 are these the improved ones? but I don’t have any material to compare it with to answer your questions.

i have up#3978,painted two tone gray, test track run only 20 ft.front and backwards, rus very smooth and starts very slow with a cheep bachmann transformer.BUT,it also runs great without the tender,so the tender is not part of the electronics.installing a kayde on the front is trickey buy i did it so you can also, kayde on tender is no sweat, hope to get bigboy next so can run double head, also heard all rivarossi is going to broadway for their electronics, any comminets,

These new Challengers have oil tenders and I think the weight inside may be dark graphite in color.

If the new challengers have oil tenders:
I have two of them, they run very smooth and the tender is no part of the electronics, like chuck allready posted, the headlight just “glows”, no light leaks out, they weigh about 770-780 grams and have a cab interior ( I have some older Rivarossi 4884’s and they have the cab filled with a motor, I guess the same goes for the older 4664’s )
