latex rubber substutes

Hi Folks
I would like to make some copies of some woodland scenic portals and
retaining walls I’ve purchased , unfortunately the hobby shop didn’t
have the woodland scenic Latex Rubber I wanted to make the molds and
they don’t plan on ordering until October. Are there any other
substitutes available for the Latex Rubber?

You can almost certainly get the same thing, and probably cheaper, in a craft store.

anks for the reply Randy , unfortunatley we don’t have a Michaels or any sort of craft stores here

Hi There Wickman;

You might want to try silicone caulking. I use it to make tree stumps from castings I bought. You can find it at any Hardware store & it’s a lot cheaper than latex rubber. I spray the casting with silicone spray first & the stumps pop right out. Hope this helps.

Tom

You could always order directly from Woodland Scenics yourself.

I agree with chateauricher. Make or buy portals. Don’t copy ones that someone else (especially a company made!!!) Not only illegal, but uncool… The whole point of latex is to copy an ORIGINAL (aka a MASTER) not something made by a company.

Thanks Guys for the replies.

I do realize that I can order directly from WS for the latex , I was asking more along the line of hardware store products that have worked.

Try your local Wal-Mart in the crafts section; Hobby Lobby too… Our WMT carries it. Forget the name, something like mold-maker. It comes in a round plastic container. A LOT cheaper than the WS stuff and works just as good. Ken

I get mine from dickblick.com (Dick Blick art supplies). A quart costs me less than a pint at my LHS. Shipping adds a bit though.

Try your local art supply stores. Also, some restoration builder suppliers carry a similar product in very large sizes. That might be a last resort for you.

Good luck,

Karl
