I can just imagine the train crew’s call to the dispatcher:
Crew: Emergency Emergency! We just hit a lawn mower.
Dispatcher: You hit a WHAT!?!
Crew: A lawnmover! A man was riding his lawnmower on the tracks!
Dispatcher: It’s 1AM! What’s he doing on a lawnmower at this hour?!
Crew: Not much; as I said, we just hit him.

You’re all right he is a defenant candidate for the darwin award but also or as Larry the cable guy would say if you see a train coming at do this (HE STEPS TO THE SIDE) You might be a red neck if you ride you’re lawnmower down train tracks at 1:00 in the morning.
The report says that alcohol was not a factor, however not a few folks who have lost their licenses due to a DWI/DUI have taken to using the riding mower for forays to their chosen destination…
You know, that’s why most railroads use chemicals for weed control…
This would be a weird incident even if you didn’t take into account the time. How did he actually get on the tracks without getting hung up? Or was he riding right next to the tracks? It’s definitely more common for ATV riders. One recently got killed up this way by a Metro North train. And snowmobilers I’ve heard too. But a riding mower is certainly unique. It is also unfortunate, of course, as is any senseless death such as this.
Man I thought people were smarter here in Georgia than that.
A good thing is you got your track mowed. Then sadly someone was killed. Show how Alcohol impacts your stupidity.

I can’t believe how dumb people are. So he WASN’T on drugs? He was alert and was aware of his surroundings (perhaps)? HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE? He probably thought he could get across the tracks before the train came. Good luck, idiot.
This happened about 40 miles from where I live on the NS Macon-Jacksonville mainline. The train in question was #210, and the speed limit for that spot was 60mph. Being a UPS hotshot intermodal, you can be rest assured that he was doing every bit of it! The overall IQ of the general population is a bit better now thanks to this idiot’s unique removal from the gene pool.
