I’ve been through that crossing and there’s no excuse for failing to see a train coming on the line. Moreover, the immediate statements from two drivers from the same company as the truck that hit the train said that they saw the signals, saw the train, and watched horrified as their co-worker didn’t do anything to slow or stop as he headed right into the side of the train. Yes, all such crossings should be separated, but that isn’t going to happen in the US in our lifetimes. Cut the speed limit to 55? If that driver is not paying attention to the conditions and surroundings, is he going to pay any attention to a speed limit sign? Gimme a break, dude.
