Laying Track

I am beginning to make a new train layout. Previously, I have used foam by Woodland Scenics under my track. I was wondering if any prefer to use cork instead and why do you prefer it I heard one time that the cork will dry out and harden as it ages. Has anyone found this to be true. Thanks for your help. I am sure I will have more questions as I go on.

Ed,

You will find people who will swear by both products here.

Yes, cork does dry out over time and become crumbly. It is also easier to shape, if you need to, and it holds nails better than foam. Some will swear by its sound deadening qualities as well.

Personally, I like the foam stuff too, but really, that’s all it is: a matter of personal preference. There is no “better”.
