I’ve finished building the basic benchwork for the new layout. It only took 10 days of diligent work. [banghead] The dimentions are 11 x 11, which is the largest layout I’ve ever done or ever will do. I’ve still got little to go before I begin with the real model work. But I’m pretty happy about it.
Will this still be based on Northern California like your old M-RR?
By the Way, this is a little off topic, but on the “HO locomotive we really need” topic I saw that you put down a CB&Q M-4 and a DMIR “Yellowstone” as your picks. I wonder if there are enough fans of Q superpower and Iron Ore country articulateds to get these made by either Genesis or Broadway Limited… I hope so…[8D]
I’m thinking Espee in Utah meets Espee in the California valley. I’m looking forward to doing some tall yellow grass.
I’m almost certain the DMIR Yellowstone will be done soon. It’s only matter of time. Remember, people keep requesting the N&W A class and C&O 2-6-6-6 and look what happend.
Then I guess I should rally up the Q troops and demand an M-4!

I’m proud to announce I have one 32" radius curve on the new layout! [yeah] This is the widest “curve” curve for me, ever! [^] The risers are in place now, but no track work has been done yet.

Hey Aggro,
I went with 30" curves and was amazed at the difference in the tracking of locos
and rolling stock. Not only do they look better, but they opperate so much better.
You will love the wider curves, believe me.

What do you mean “last piece of track”? I’m on my fourth layout and have never been content with the first laying. I’ve let the layout set in plywood prairie for as long as six to seven months using coke cans as storage tanks and small cardboard boxes as factorys and depots. As soon as I start scenery I see a better way. It takes me a long time to lay track the first time but I feel that it isn’t cast in stone so I will change it if it works better.
I agree with DAVE9999. My new layout is an around the wall shelf in a 15’X15’ room. This gives me 28" to 32" radius and they are nice. Where I used to think that 24" was big (and it was with an island layout) now I feel it is awful tight. I still run 36’ cars late steam and early desiel. It looks nice to see a train of 20 cars and not have the locomotive headlight shinning into the caboose.
My new BLI Santa Fe 4-8-4 arrived this week and it is awsome. When it is sitting on the track next to my United 4-8-4, at 4’ it’s hard to tell the difference and it’s a whole lot cheaper.
