Ogaugoverlord is frustrated with the current on slot of threads about a coupe of topics that need not be mentioned here. In light of that, I decided to post this idea I had for a layout. For those of you who do not know, I already have a layout setup that you can see here, http://ogaugerr.infopop.cc/eve/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=63160042&f=453102703&m=474103078. After running this for awhile, I’ve decided I’d like more places to put accessories and shuffle cars around. So this is what I’ve come up with.
I’ve also come up with an addition to it that allows for a second level to run along the two walls with reversing loops at both ends. Maybe this will give someone else some ideas and in turn maybe they can give me some ideas.

Hey Rod, I understand Bob’s concern, and I think we are handeling things pretty well. There is a time and a place for hot topics, and I think the board has a nice mix right now. Normal topics are always welcome. Personally I like both. It shows balance.
That said, I really like your layout. One thing that I love to see in a medium sized layout is the ability to use reverse loops in both directions. This element was mentioned in the track planning article in the December CTT. I see you have a couple of passing sidings and a yard too. A design like this is great, because it porvides lots of possibilities. No boredom of simple loops.
My design is very different. My space is very large, and I am taking a scale approach more commonly associated with 2 rail operations. Main goal, have fun.[8D]
Its hard to say what’s more fun–collecting the trains or designing the layout. Well, OK, collecting is slightly more fun. [:D] However, it might be interesting to poll readers about the size of their layout–small (less than 4x8), medium (4x8 to 9x12), or large (larger than 9x12) and whether the layout is temporary or permanent. I know many of my friends in the hobby dream of that 24x24 layout with 10 loops, 4 levels, 3 yards, helixes, etc. It might be eye-opening to see what is really happening.
I myself am getting ready to build a 4x12 layout with 2 loops and possibly a small 3rd loop on a higher level. Wish me luck.
Nice work, Rod. Lots of action in a reasonable sized space. Great reversing loops. I like that the yard has a reasonable length.
I looked at the pictures of the older version (also very nice) and I was wondering why the change? Something with the grades? It’s really tough to achieve an over and under type layout (with reasonable grades) in even a medium space.
Old 2037, I just wanted more “operations”. My current layout has only the one spur which is heading in to a mountain. Not many places for the accessories that I had acquired. The grade on my layout (at 3.9% and 4.0%) was not a problem for anything except Beeps, and that was only when I tried one beep lugging the TMCC Crane car around. Just wouldn’t do it, but two did.
Elliot, that is one large layout. Wish I had that ind of room.
Hobo1430, I have about as much fun buying trains and accesories, running them as I do designing and tweaking layouts.
For those of us who are space impaired look around to see if there are any operating clubs with layouts. I joined one and it was the smartest thing I ever did. You not only get to enjoy running your trains but since it is a public venue you get the chance to meet a lot of very nice people. [^]
Forgot to add that since you aren’t spending money on track and scenery you get to spend more on locos and cars.[:D][:D][:D]
