Layout Featured in Model Railroader?

How many folks here have had their layout featured in Model Railroader (or any other published magazine) ??

Hoping not to start anything, I’m just curious is all.

John

I haven’t, but my Dad just met a man this week that had his in it back in the 90’s right here in eastern NC. He is selling it all and I am working a deal with my Dad to get some ACL engines cheap

Cool! Do you know which issue? Is there a web site with photos?

Someday…[swg]

(What can I say, I’m an optimist!)

Not me! though it is a goal. Just like working towards a MMR cert. It’'s a long way off! I do, however, have the privilege of being a regular operator on two railroads that have been in a competitors magazine. Even if it’s not my work, just seeing #11 pulling the Salida turn, one of my favorite runs, gives me that fuzzy feeling of what I might be able to achieve.

Yeah, me too-- right after it stops being pink… [swg]

My 2’ by 6’ shelf layout was in MR many, many moons ago - October 1984 - “Mansfield Junction”. My first pair of HO scale modules was the cover article in the July 1984 - “The Fundy Northern Expands”. I did an article on our club layout, my modules were featured along with the cover photo in the July 1989 issue.

My second pair of modules was the cover article in the October 1995 issue of “Model Railroading” magazine.

I’ve had 27 other cover articles, on individual models over the years, in MR, MRG, RMC, Canadian Railway Modeller, and the NMRA Bulletin. Currently have had over 800 of my model photos published.

What a coincidence, I was literally just re-reading that issue a week or two ago! [:)]

I’ve seen your photo-tips web site before, very nice. I especially like the image of the interior of the engine house. That’s right up there with ‘awesome’ !!

My “Canadian National Cold River Subdivision” was featured in the Oct/Nov 2008 issue of Canadian Railway Modeller. In addition, I have had many layout photos published in the “Modellers’ Photos” section of the same magazine over the past couple of years.

I was invited to have my previous layout in the magazine, but declined, as I felt its appearance really wasn’t fully up to my personal standards. I’ll likely submit an article on my HHRR to MR for publication within the next couple of years.

Like Bob, I’ve had many of my photos, some of them of my past and current but not yet finished layout, published in MR, RMC and Scale Rails over the years.

I always find something in your layout photography that I’ve missed before!

I’ll be waiting for that article to show up[:D]

My current Santa Fe has not been published, the former freelance Mojave Western was in April 1984 MR. Andy came to KC and took the photos, I wrote the text. This was done in prep for the NMRA National in KC. One month after the national and the tours, the Mojave Western died and the current Santa Fe was started. The current Santa Fe layout was in fact used to complete my requirements for the MMR award.

I look at the article now and realize how far we have come in the hobby, in equipment, engines, scenery and concepts.

My (now tore down) Port Kelsey Ry. was featured on the cover and an article in the Aug. 97 issue of Model Railroader as well as in the May '97 Canadian Railway Modeler.

The old On30 Pacific Coast Air Line Railway was in MRP.

It is chronicled at:

I had a feature in N Scale Magazine last year (Sept/Oct 09 issue). I have a submission pending for GMR that got a favorable first impression, but nothing nailed down yet. I’ve got about 3 or 4 other articles in the pipeline for the N scale press, waiting for a borrowed camera so I can finish the photography.

My layout also provided the backdrop for this…

I also have pictures on my website, linked below my sig.

I second that!

I for one do remember both of your guys’ entries into the magazine, and reading them with interest. In fact, both of you partially influenced me to my current point. Harold, you affirmed my fantasy of pre-1900 modeling or close to it, and Bob, you excited me about logging, which is now my current theme/driving force.

We are in the presence of some wonderful modellers and photographers here, as exemplified by this thread. I love being reminded of these things to inspire and challenge.

I’m in the 2010 Model Railroad Planning edition, though it does not really count being that it is in an advert, but one of my locos is featured in the ad, as well as freight cars weathered by the boys. The layout is the one at K-10 model trains, which we like to operate on regularly.

I’ve seen a few from the forums, but there are even more here that should but are not.

It would be nice in the future. But first, I need to build the layout…

I (as I am sure others are) am a frequent visitor to you website, and it seems I learn something new each time I’m there. Thanks![tup]

Oh, and if it is not too much problem could you tell me (and I’m sure others) the proper pronuncation of your last name? Unfortunately, I took Spanish not French in high school.
