I am planning to build an HO layout soon and would like to visit some well-done layouts. I will be In Indianapolis this weekened (Feb 11-14). Anyone know of willing hosts??
If you have a way to get around and dont mind a 45min drive, there is a real nice club located north of Indy in Kokomo. 15’ x 50’ layout, working CTC board, working floodloading coal tower, working rotary coal car dump, large roundhouse with working turn table. Theme is based on the Clinchfield RR and the layout is heavy into operation with card forwarding, unit coal trains, and interchange with the members home layouts. I used to be a member before moving to PA state. If you can call either The Train Exchange hobby shop in Kokomo, or I think Big Four Hobbies in Indy will have a contact number for a club member. I cannot remember any of the numbers right now to save my life! The persons to get ahold in the club is either A. Golliner, or M. Doud. I highly recommend for hobby shops either Big Four Hobbies in Indy, its on the west side in Plainfield. Or if your into larger trains, Watts Train and Christmas shop is in Zionsville. For O gauge trains hit Train Express, its on the north side of Indy and short drive from Watts. Cheers and have a safe trip.
Thank you so much! I will check into this today!
Sorry that i didn’t catch this earlier. There are numerous layouts in the Indy area and several clubs that welcome visitors. You can see many of them on the Central Indiana Division web site at: http://cid.railfan.net/ Just take the Layouts link and Clubs link.
But why did you post this on the 16th if you were there last weekend?
LGBF7, I grew up in Kokomo and remember seeing that layout when I was a kid in the late 70s. The Douds were friends of my family and one of my high school teachers was a member of that club. It was indeed impressive back then and I’m sure it’s even better today. I’m sure it’s well worth the drive from Indy.

Ooops, i misread my calender…I am in the area 19-21st.
I visited the layout last night. I was indeed impressed…both with the layout and the members of the club. The guys were very accomodating and friendly, and we enjoyed seeing the very operational layout. This layout is quite a monster at approximately 50x15! Thanks for all the tips!
