Layout Pic

A group of workmen discuss the day’s events over at The Baxter’s Building Supply Company. In the background, a truck is loaded with sand needed at a nearby construction site:

Shingles, clutter and Jordan vehicles, not to mention the stories.

It can’t be that bad for you – can it??

Beautiful, Bob, truly beautiful…dang it I need to work on my layout!!![:D]

Each of your pictures has so much detail and things going on in them. It makes them seem so real.

You’ve inspired me to order Campbell cedar shingles for my next structure. I’m going to get some of that Water Putty, too.

impressive…and inspirational…

Great attention to detail, with the clutter and all. One suggestion, though, and it has more to do with the photography than the scene. Use a tripod and if your camera has manual settings, adjust it so that the it has the highest f-stop opening. This will make the lens aperture the smallest, giving you the greatest depth of field. This will make more of your picture in sharp focus, from front to back.

Other that than, I love the scene!! Here are the scenarios:

  • The one guy in the background on the left end of the dock is wondering where his helpers went. Their boss is looking for them in the shed.
  • In the front dock, it’s not hard to figure out who the supervisor is: yep, one with his hands in his pockets.

  • Haven’t been able to figure out what that guy has on his head (the group of guys talking in the foreground on the right).

AND, something I noticed that’s missing from a lot of other layout pics. That glossy sheen on the figures. Nothing ruins a great shot like people wearing shiny clothes. GREAT JOB!

Nice scene Bob. I’ve seen it before from a different angle, but changing the angle offers a better view at this scene. Very inspiring.

First let me start by saying as always, this scene is wonderful. I love your work. I look to it for inspiration.

However, one thing that I have been noticing is that there are never any trains in your pictures! Just an observation. I see track, sometimes, and while I realize that you’re focusing your picture on a specific scene and it’s incredible detail, it would be nice to see a loco passing through with a southbound freight, or a boxcar being loaded, or people at a station as the 3:15 pulls in, or some such “train” centric scene.

That said, I still love your work.

Best Regards,
Trevor
