Layout Pic

This photo is a dual purpose post…
1.) I recently spruced up the scenery here.
2.) I just finished off the Focal Orange N5c Cabin Car.

Just like my own layout…i love any layout with fall colors…nice job!!

Looks great!

You gotta weather those trucks up a bit though…

Very nice job on the caboose and I love that fall color. I agree about getting some weathering on both the caboose and the hopper but sometimes it’s nice to pretend everything was just built or shopped.

Very nice variation of color and texture. It is a little bright for realism, but just right for expresivism. That is how a bright fall scene feels to me. Thanks for sharing.

I had the issue with the bright fall colors “popping” out…as i noticed in the real world…most trees have come green or brown in them even when they are “full” color…so i solved this by lightly airbrushing some light olive greens and umbers over the bright colors…it made a tremendous difference in the appearance of the trees…just food for thought…

Looks great. I especially like the camera angle. Looking up at a train looks natural.

Nice work!

very vivid colors, makes me want fall!

I’ve been thinking of picking up an N5c.

It is the N5c that makes me think the colors are a little brighter in the photo than in the actual layout. The cabin is really about 3 shades darker. That doesn’t mean that the individual trees might not need some green, but it is hard to tell what the overall effect is in the train room.

good job!

scenery and caboose now match nicely

Chip,

I really like the Bowser cabin cars. Compared with most cabooses on the market the N5 and N5c are bargains. My LHS has them for $12 to $13. The only downside is the glazing kit is $3 extra.

The particular cabin is painted in the Focal Orange scheme, so it really is that bright. Well almost.

I will admit, I went a little artsy here. I played with the color of the light and slightly overexposed the photo to make the trees and cabin car “pop” the way they do. Exactly realistic, not really. But, I really like the final effect. And as a photographer I greatly respect once told me, “How do you know if a photograph is great? If you like it, it’s a great photograph.”
