I was wondering if the forums could have another folder for layout pics only. I really like looking at other peoples layouts for inspiration and ideas plus just to see what people model. Does anyone know how to get in contact with the forum mods to see if this can be done.

Bergie is our wonderful forum moderator. You can email him through his profile. I wasn’t able to get his exact email, because the email link through the profile and signature does not display the actual email, it just sends the message to that person’s mailbox.

My personal opinion on your idea, and please do not take offense to it:
There have been numerous requests for new forums of various different types, suchas a forum for weathering. I have been thinking about a forum for DCC.
The problem with new forums is that it takes away from the general pot, and people aren’t always sure where exactly to post. This has happened with the Layout Building Forum.
Here are some current ways we display our railroads and other pictures.
The Photo Fun Threads, the most successful being Weekend Photo Fun, and Mid-Week Photo Fun.
Many members have websites, which often display their railroads and other photos. These websites can be accessed in the row of links below the post and signature, and/or links in people’s signatures.
that is a very good idea, i know of other forums from my other hobbies that have a gallery section
railroadyoshi…no offense taken but really its not that hard of a concept…A place that has only layout pics. A place to show what you have done or someone else has done. That’s it…it not confusing at all. I have seen other forums that have photo galleries and no one seems to get confused on what to post there…

In another forum I belong to, there are many more “forums” to post to. It is sometimes more difficult to find material, and often times much easier as the threads don’t dissapear from the front page as quickly. There are pros and cons with any format, and it is certainly OK to make the suggestion to Bergie. At the other place, the moderator will move posts that are posted in the wrong place to where they are more appropriate. There are many posts in this forum that really should be posted in one of the other ones here, particularly the layout and layout building section. Since this one gets more traffic, people post most of their questions about everything in the hobby here. Simply adding another forum to the mix would not nesessarly mean that people would use it. just my [2c]
Guys, it’s not going to happen (and I personally don’t think it should - but that doesn’t really matter). This is MR’s site, and they don’t seem to want to do that.

CARRfan beat me to it. www.railimages.com has more pics than you could ever seriously look at. That’s where I post the photos I link to in this forum.
The problem with asking MR/Kalmbach to do this is the insatiable demand for disk space on their servers. Pictures are particularly big space and bandwidth hogs, and there’s the constant problem of monitoring the whole system for “appropriate content,” which is magnified greatly when pictures are involved.
