layout picture

Hey guys

Thought I’d post this pic so you can comment Please!!

The coal train is coming off the main line (outer loop) from the coal mine, entering a reverse loop.
It will back into the three yard tracks (one track will stay empty) a switcher will move the cars in and out to unload them.

The reverse loop heads thru an X crossing and a tunnel to the main yards and loco service on the right peninsula.

The freight train is on the other reverse loop, I can use it to turn trains off the main and inner line.

The passenger train is on the inner loop which runs thru main yard and right peninsula and back.

Any suggestions? I’ve just thought of one as I’m typing, no room for empty and loaded cars in those three tracks.

Ken.

Looks good to me!

That’s a lot of track in a small area, but it looks like a good setup (I’d have to see the whole layout and how you operate it to really offer any real ideas) Only thing I can really see it the radius of the track the passenger train is on looks a little tight, but that may be the camera angle.

Looks like some quality benchwork too, nicely done.

That looks really good. I like it[^]

TRAINS!!! TRAINS!!![oops] , I mean nice layout! [:I]

Hi NZRMac, What Industries/services, etc. would be on the penninsula shown? If you are going to keep a switcher in that location for duties, you might want to add a “ready track” for the switcher (and have a small Loco house for it) thereby opening up one of the yard tracks to be classification track for assembling empties to be returned to the mine. A lot depends on the size you plan on your coal drags being. Looks like you can do a lot of “railroading” in that location

Very impessive! Keep up the good work! [tup]

That’s REALLY nice! I was thinking along the same lines as Ray about a ready track for a switcher. I really like those curves in the distance. What’s your minimum radius on the peninsula, BTW? Post more photos as you progress, okay? So far, it looks great!

Thanks Guys

I’m just going to have a steel mill or power station ( something that uses alot of coal ). Over on the left where the phone is sitting will be a small town, passenger station (stub track) and steam loco service (excursion trips). I might turn that siding into a wye off the main.
This peninsula is 4’ wide and 12’ from the backdrop. The right peninsula is 3’ wide and 16’ from the backdrop (I need to tidy it before any photo’s!!)

If you can suggest any more industries that could fit I’d be grateful.

Ken.

Anymore suggestions??

Thanks

Ken.[:D]

Veddy, veddy nice, old chap. Impressive, dude. Darn nice.

Hey Ken, it looks good to me. I vote for the Power station with alot of coal to be moved into it!!! Kevin

I second lbflattop’s suggestion for a power plant. Even a blast furnace operation alone can use up HUGE amounts of space. (You can see what I mean if you visit the web page on my signature, and click on the ‘Steel Mill’ link.) You gotta really love the steel industry to take on that kind of project!

How about one of those Walthers ‘flood loader’ coal mines? It takes up very little space, and it could give you a way to do point-to-point operating (coal-mine-to-power-plant).

I could do something similar in my garage only Deb would kill me if she couldn’t get her vehicle inside. Love only goes so far.
