Layout Plan, Version 3

All,

I’ve finally completed track plan version 3. (It’s in HO scale.) The plan is quite large, so its taken me 3 months. I really like the results. Any comments are appreciated. The layout has 2.5 scenicked levels or decks, meaning the upper most level requires a section of raised floor for comfortable viewing, but it gave me a mainline run of 14 feet per actual mile as opposed to 9 with the previous version. You can view a description and a track plan at the following links:

Thanks,

Eric, it look s great to me. If I had the space you did, however, I don’t think I would bother with the multilevels (except for under layout staging of course). But if that’s what you are looking for, it’s quite well laid out inmho. Good job.

That was just on of those trade offs. I’ve always wanted to model Wyoming Yard to Holland and have a good amount of space between actual towns and a larger number of feet per actual mile to allow a slower fast clock, 1:4 in this case. The only way to accompli***his was to go to multiple decks like I did. Givens and Druthers.

Thanks for the compliment. Now I just have to fini***he basement.

I’m just finishing up my layout room this coming weekend. I’m modelling a small railroad (Putnam Division NYC) and can still only muster about a foot and a half to each actual mile.

Very nice plan. Shoud keep you busy for a while!

I just read an article on dream basement layouts. It looks like you have one in the making [^]

Good luck and be sure to take lot’s of pictures.

Eric, Why does your track plan have all those “For Educational Use Only” labels on the drawing?

Looks great tho…
Don

I use Pro/ENGINEER CAD software at work and I have a student edition at home that I used to design the layout. The student edition is much cheaper, $200 verses $5000, so the program automatically puts that on any print out to keep people from using the student edition for commercial purposes. (The layout design is in 3D, but I made the 2D drawings so people can see the track plan.)
