Well, thanks to some helpful posters, I got some layout planning software and have finished my first draught. Here we are, any suggestions will be considered and appreciated.

Joe,
Don’t know if anybody else has this problem, but I can’t seem to open a larger verison of the picture you posted. I clicked on it, but nothing happened. Maybe just post a link to the file instead?
From what I can see, however, it looks pretty cool. I’m guessing you’ve got some kind of duckunder planned… or an elevator that comes up through the center [:)]
Cheers,
Oh, sorry about that. Right click and go to save as, then open it larger from “My Pictures”. Yes there is a duckunder to get into the middle.
What are the dimensions and scale?
Looks like about 10x10 feet in HO.
Jon - Las Vegas
yeah, 10x11, 3 feet wide around the room.
The switching should keep you busy! Looks Good…good luck!
Yep, thats what I was planning for. The two longer sides are reserved mainly for yards and industries while the shorter sides will make for some impressive mountains. It looks like three main lines, but there are only 2. The one that connects directly to the two yards is a double-lap design so you have to drive a little to get where you are going.
So your door swings outward into the hallway?
Doorway??? minor problem mr.jones, if it doesnt swing that way now I am sure it will soon enough [;)]

This is the shape of my bedroom layout. 2 sides are 11 feet long. The room is only 9 feet wide. One of the petrusions runs in my closet space.
Most bedroom doors tend to open into the room, which we must consider when plotting. Since you drew that plan up, I assume you have a special door or somthing.
Actually I have a crazy little plan. You have to duck under to get into the room, the layout is mounted pretty high, 2.5 feet from the cieling. Instead of making the door swing the other way, Im going to cut the door at layout level. Then only the part of the door below the layout will open. A little inconvinient to get inside, but it works…
