Layout progress - it's been a while

This weekend I made some of the first progress with my layout for quite a while (a while meaning August of '07!!). Just so you see the progress, I’ll post some older photos first.

The first time everything was laid down. The buildings and trees are only sitting there, and the track and roadbed are tacked down.

Layout now has a 4-way switch up front, buildings are laid out a little more like they are now, and some stained wood was added around the perimeter to finish it a little more.

Grass and ballast were started, added more trees (including the edge of a pine forest in the corner), painted roads, and started gluing buildings down.

And now, the current progress of the layout.[:D]

That’s not the most complicated layout I’ve ever seen, but it’s coming along nicely and is quite presentable. Certainly moreso than mine. Nice work!

“pretty well finished”–yeah, right–maybe some lights in the buildings???

Looks good. The Life Like train station and vehicles remind me of my first train set I still have from when I was a kid. Oh wait, I am still a kid, but not physically[(-D]

7j43k, I would like a complicated MR front page layout, but for now, this is all I’ve got room for. Maybe someday when I get my basement empire with mountains and rivers and 200ft. bridges, I’ll integrate this one into it.[:D] Some of the buildings do have lights, but I haven’t done any wiring for them. Maybe I’ll get that done sometime…

wholeman, aren’t we all just a bunch of big kids, “playing with our toy trains?”[:D]

Really Nice job overall. The only thing I have to say is I think the buildings could use a little bit of weathering.

I like it. Small layouts are also good because they can be completed in a shorter amount of time. I have an oval layout with two sidings, and it’s built on a 3’x6’ two piece modular table. I can run only one train at a time, but I have lots of locos and cars and I usually change trains every three days. I never get bored with it.

A basement sized layout is fun too, but I would never want to run something that big all by myself. With a small layout I can just put a train on and let 'er rip.

You have done more with that layout than I did with my first one, mid to late 50’s, which had to share a dorm room at college with me. When I graduated, I took a position in Topeka KS which required me to pack up the layout and remove all buildings, scenery, and transport it on the roof of my car from Oklahoma to Topeka. Talk about a real Okie! I moved into a small apartment and that layout survived another two years of life.

Now, I have a finished basement room 29ft by 35 ft, with a three deck finished layout, hold operating sessions, enjoy it very much, but I still remember that little 4 by 6 I started out with.
