Layout Progress Report (Pics)

Hi everyone. It’s been about 3 months since my last post. But as you can see, I’ve been busy working on the railroad. Today, I took a break from construction to document my progress. For those of you who have been following my updates, these pics are taken across the river into the town I named Horseshoe Meadows. The layout is now 85% complete. Next will be a downtown area with a center plaza.

For a complete history of my layout progress, which was started back in Dec 2008, please visit my photo album at Photobucket.com under album “engineerbob”

This first pic shows an overall view of the new completed section of my layout. The area measures 14 feet x 2.5 feet:

This next pic shows the completed truss bridge over The Bella River (named after my niece Isabella)

These next few pics were taken from left to right as they appear on the layout:

These pics show the last of my three passenger stations called Horseshoe Meadows along with surrounding businesses:

Horseshoe Tower:

These last pics show the first of three major business streets I plan to model. This area is called Grand Ave:

Swell!

Most amazing the amount and type of detail you entertain on your layout!

However do you come up with the ideas?

Very nice!

Now if I could only get going so I could show progress on any level.

Again, very nice layout and photos.

Have fun,

As always you do superb work Bob! I am always amazed at your attention to detail and of course that is what makes your work stand out. BZ to you.

LOL, You kill me Robert…you said “I’m going to take my time on this section.” Apparently not the case. And do I see some more weathering on the truss bridge? And wires on the power poles?

Looks great. Mrs. likes it too. You’ll have to come by and see my full size semaphore I recenlty picked up.

I am slowing down. I’ve cut back to 12 hours a day! ( L.O.L. Anyway, thanks for the kind words, and yes i went back and re-weathered the truss bridge… Thanks to your comment “That bridge needs more weathering” I won’t even ask where you picked up a full-size semaphore. But knowing you, you’ve probably got it all wired up and working.

Hi Terry! It’s been a while since our last chat. The last time we’ve talked, you were working on a new layout. How’s it coming along?

excellent work, I enjoyed the tour a great deal

Bob,

I have always enjoyed seeing pictures of your utterly fantastic layout. Your care for details and nitty-gritties make the difference.

To say that I am just jealous would be today´s understatement!

MR would be certainly glad to run a feature on your layout!

Wow, incredible layout. I saw the last update which was just unreal. Great work!

You should submit some photos to MRR magazine, I bet you can get on the cover with some of those scenes.

Well Bob I have been on one interesting life roller coaster for the last four years or so. Things are now starting to normalize and I can devote more time to my hobbies. I knew I was only going to be in this area for less than two years so when I designed and began building my current layout I built it with moving in mind. I am building it in the master bedroom around the walls. (yep I’m single) I have one 14 ft section completed as far as hand laid track and T/o’s. Buildings are up and I am currently finishing up all the elec wiring underneath for the frogs/signal lites etc. Should start ballasting etc in another couple of weeks. I have been working on my scratch building tech and completed a rather nice looking single stall engine house.

Your layout looks fantastic. I love the way you are able to get the 3D look with the landscape. I have a problem visualizing hills and tracks at various levels so mine is all pretty much flat so far. Of course it is mainly yard area. The main focus is the Swift Soybean Plant operation featured in MRR mag a couple years ago. Plenty of switching and like I said nice and flat (easy). Maybe in a week or so when I get some scenicing done I will post some pics.

It’s nice to be back and see all the great work from folks like yourself.

Suffice it to say, Bob, that I maintain a Most Hated List for those modelers whose work is so outstanding that I cannot bear to look at photos of it for very long, and then it is days before I can once again descend into the basement and work on my own layout.

So, congratulations, your name has now been entered on my Most Hated List. LOL

Rich

Thanks for the kind words… However, I’ve also been following your work for some time now, and have been inspired by you as well. One of my favorite aspects of this hobby has been the great folks I have met and shared ideas with over the years.

Bob.

This is supposed to be pictures of MODEL railroads NOT some horde of real old black & white photo’s of actual places that you sent off to “Turner Classic Movies” to have them digitally cleaned up and colourized. You also must have digitally inserted the background to include pictures of parts of your own home to further fool us into believing that it’s YOUR model layout. No one can be that good a modeler. Can they??? [(-D][(-D][(-D][tup][tup]

On a more serious note, excellent work, Bob. Please keep up with the inspiration for the rest of we mere mortals.

Blue Flamer.

P.S. Where can I send you the bill for a new computer. While I was looking at your Pics., I started drooling all over my keyboard and it shorted out and blew my PC.[banghead]

BF.

That’s a layout l!!

Wolfgang

Bob, very, VERY nice! When I get ready to install my backdrop, will you fly out and paint it for me?
