How about contacting the county records dept. or the geographical dept. and getting copies of the maps for your time period, then developing a plan from that?

So far as I can tell from your previous posts, you were trying to build a layout based on the railroad in the “Petticoat Junction” TV show, which didn’t actually exist. So there’s no track plan for you to follow.

The Sierra Railroad is pretty much a tourist railroad, frequently used by film companies to simulate just about any railroad anywhere. If your intention is to model the Sierra Railroad, check the Sierra RR website–there is an interactive track map that shows you a list of what movies were shot where. You can use this map and a trip to the video store to actually see what is at various locations. An actual route map, accurate down to what switches are where, would be more difficult to find, but personally I’d try the California State Railroad Museum Library. They have an online catalog, you can find it at http://www.csrmf.org, and if you find anything searching their database you can call the library and arrange to have them photocopy materials for a nominal fee.

An easier method might be to download Google Earth and search for “Sierra Railroad” and zoom in to get a closer look: there is still a railroad there, and you can get close enough to get a pretty good look at track arrangements.

But frankly, if your intent is to make a model of the railroad in “Petticoat Junction” then you’re pretty much going to have to make it up. The show was set in the deep South, which has radically different physical characteristics than eastern California. There also is no prototype, so there will be no track plan. A better place to start would be listing off what you’d like to model, railroad-wise, and going from there–there is no harm in making it up.
